A big happy new year to you all, and welcome to my new blog.
I have been trying to write this blog since the summer, and after many failed attempts and deleted posts, this one is here to stay! I never really knew what to write before.. did I want to teach, share my art, talk about travels and inspiration or write about myself? I thought a blog had to be one theme in particular. But after a lot of thinking over the past few months, I have decided to just write. I want to draw, and I want to talk about it and share my art journey with everyone else. So, I’m feeding my own terribly annoying habit by having to write everything down, and hopefully I will help other artists while I’m doing so!
So, here’s a little bit about me. My name is Amber Gray. I live in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom and I am 21 years old. I have been drawing since I was little and I have always loved and appreciated art. A few years ago, in 2015 I was on a family holiday in Disneyworld, Florida and as I was sat waiting in the que for The Art Of Animation in Hollywood Studios, a member of the Disney team had her sketchbook out drawing a picture of Frozen’s Elsa. She was using Reeves Watercolour pencils. That is the day I really fell in love with art. I made my dad drive me around every shop in Florida until I found my first coloured pencils. The 48 set of Prismacolor Premier. I have been hooked since then and although I haven’t produced many pieces I am learning all the time. As soon as I got back from that holiday in Florida I practised and practised and lost hope in my art too many times to count! I started drawings, hated them, chucked them away, started again, rinse and repeat. It was only in May 2017 that I finished the first piece that I actually quite liked, since then it’s been onwards and upwards for me.
I love working in coloured pencil but I am also dabbling in watercolour painting and I’d like to try lots of mediums and maybe combine them in the future to make mixed media pieces. I will post every time I try something new and let you know how it goes!
I have just launched my YouTube channel which I will only be starting off with time lapse videos of my drawings for now, but as it grows and I feel more confident, I will be adding voiceovers, tutorials and product reviews to my channel. My most recent drawing ‘The Kingfisher’ is my first time lapse drawing and you can check it out Here! If you like it and don’t want to miss out on more from my channel please hit the subscribe button while your there! It would be much appreciated.
In other news, today I hit 600 followers on my Instagram and I am over the moon. Thank you to all my followers for supporting me over the past year.
Well, Thats about it for today.. I have so many ideas for this blog and I’m so excited to share them all with you. I will post as much as I can. It might be my artwork or a work in progress of my work, it might be an idea or some tips and techniques I have learned, it might be photographs I have taken for reference photos or it might just be me wanting to talk. I just want to write, and I hope that as a beginner artist myself, I can help and inspire you to paint and draw!
Thanks for reading! AG X.
